vilhelm hammershøi

På sporet af det åbne billede

The book reproduces over 500 paintings, drawings, photographs, sketches, clippings, postcards and letters, which together provide a biographical, art-historical, cultural-historical look at the danish artist Vilhelm Hammershøi and his work.

Places were of great importance to Hammershøi, and he always chose very consciously where he should live – preferably in older houses. The home was his studio and often his favorite motif. The book visits many of the places where Hammershøi lived: Frederiksberg, Christianshavn, Falster, Paris, Gentofte, Refsnæs, Holland, Belgium, London and Rome.

In the biographical section of the book, important people to his life and work are highlighted: the mother Frederikke Hammershøi, the sister Anna Hammershøi, the teacher P.S. Krøyer, his colleague Valdemar Schønheyder Møller, his wife Ida Hammershøi, and his brother Svend Hammershøi.
